金・銀

I was asked about some translactions in French by my friends. They wanted to know French expressions about '金'. Indeed, there're 2 kinds: One is 'gold,' and the other is 'money.'

In French, 'gold' in English is or, and 'money' in English is argent. Before verifying with French dictionary, I returned my answers to them like above.

Because I didn't remember quickly a translation of 'silver' in English into French, I checked with my dictionary. The answer for this question is argent. i.e. French people use a word argent for '銀'(silver) and 'お金'(money).

「お金」は「金」という文字を使いますね？英語でいうgold。
一方、フランス語では「お金」を表す語に「銀」という文字を当てます。
英語ではmoneyですが、これは「金」(gold)でも「銀」(silver)でもありませんね。

Dreams come true even in foreign language communication!

I sent an e-mail in French and English to my French stakeholder, who works in separate company from us.I used 2 languages as follows

Bonjour AA-san,Vous allez bien?
J'ai essayé votre cas de test comme vous me disait hier.(I tried your test case, as you said yesterday)...

Then, she replied to me in English and Japanese:

Konnichi-wa,
kyoro1-san,
O matase shimashita.
Kono message ga ikkai dake okurarete imasu. Nido okuru kotowa dekimasuka.(This message is sent only once in your transaction, and can you send this message twice?)...

And she also writes in the bottom of her e-mail.

Kore wa hon'yaku ga muzukashisugimashita. Gomen'nasai.

She doesn't need to apologize to me... Indeed, these Japanese sentences are made with polite-remark as you see , and perhaps she writes them by herself. Anyway, I didn't expect that she used roma-ji in her e-mail. Similar format she uses was interesting for me, and it surprised me very much, and made me smile (^o^).
This is, actually, not essential work for our task, but I'm glad to receive a message as above. Such an interesting wit would motivate us to study foreign languages. I continue to study them!!

郷に入っては郷に従え

In the first post of this blog, I quoted Japanese proverb:"郷に入っては郷に従え." I got a advice from my SNS member. He said it would be "Do in Rome as Romans do." I cannot judge if this is the most appropriate expression in English, because my English vocabulary is very poor...

I'll try to study Chinese from today!!

I'm writing a diary for studying Chinese in this blog, and also would like to try "Google blogger" function. Maybe I write in Enlgish like today, and French and Janapese as well.
Please allow me to choose the language to choose. (Just in case, I'm a Japanese man.)

My current target is to be able to read Chinese newspaper, or some other articles or magazines in Chinese. As long as I've heard from my friends, who had studied Chinese, it seems very important to learn pronouciations like "4声" in studying Chinese, even if my primary target is reading Chinese.

I'm not sure the correct proverb in English, but I remembered Japanese proverb:"郷に入っては郷に従え." I'll obey their advice in studying it.
